| Preventing Osteoporosis |
| Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones lose calcium, become fragile and tend to fracture more readily. Osteoporosis usually affects people over the age of 40, predominately women. Just three serves of milk products - a serve is equal to a 250 ml glass milk, a 200g tub of yoghurt, or a 35g piece of cheese, or any combination of these three foods provides most people with the recommended dietary intake of calcium needed to build and maintain strong bones and teeth, and to help prevent osteoporosis.A long-term balanced diet incorporating three serves of dairy food a day, in conjunction with moderate weight-bearing exercises such as walking, running or playing tennis on a regular basis can help prevent osteoporosis. |
